Last weekend my friend Paige, from Wanderlust and Dogs and I, headed off to Boleslawiec, Poland to purchase pottery! I never understood what the fuss was all about when it came to Polish Pottery, but after our first trip back in February, I knew I HAD to go back and pick up more things.
Why is Polish Pottery so popular? Polish Potter is made from a durable stoneware that is created from native white clay and then fired in ovens to very high temperatures. It is extremely durable, will not crack or chip easily and maintains its color. Each piece is completely lead and cadmium-free and can be used safely in the oven, dishwasher, microwave and freezer.
It even makes perfect decorative pieces!
Paige and I decided to leave Saturday morning and spend the night in Poland. I found a cheap little hotel called Pensjonat U Janiny about 5 minutes away from the shops which included Parking, WiFi and Breakfast. It was only $37 for the night! You can't really go wrong with that. AND the best part, Paige has a Prius, it makes me kinda wish we got a more gas efficient car for when we travel, kinda. Haha.

Once we arrived in Poland, we started off at the WR Ceramika, (ul. Kosciuszki 24B, 59-7000 Boleslaweic) it's the first row of store as you get into the town. I would suggest starting off here just so you can get a feel for the different types of patterns and things offered, although we didn't end up buying anything until our 4th store. And of course by the 8th store we had quite a nice collection between the two of us. Of course the next day we hit up the Manufacture Outlet ([Zgorzelecka 22B, 59-700 Boleslaweic] It is my absolute favorite store!), the prices are the best and I made out like a bandit!

Drew and I had a pattern picked out from our last trip, the famous "Peacock Eye" that is known around the world, so I knew what I would be getting, I just had to decide what type of dish to get. I knew I wanted a fruit tray stand, serving dishes and some mugs. I came home with all of those, and new dish set! I'm not sure how we decided on what things to buy. I wanted everything!! I still do!

A lot of people go to Boleslawiec for Pottery, I love pottery, but I also love Polish food! On our first night in Poland we had dinner at Opalkowa Chaata, where I introduced Paige to Perogies, polish dumplings (they are amazing!). The restaurant is adorable! The menu is in English as well, so it didn't take long for us to find something to eat. I got a fried breaded pork chop with bacon, and Paige got the fried chicken breast with cheese, and we split an order of perogies. It was amazing!
The next day we ended up having lunch at The Blue Beetroot before heading home. A lot of Army wives love to stay there, which I can see why, it is adorable and the food was good, I got a salad, Paige got Polish soup and we split another order of spinach filled perogies. I liked the food from Opalkowa Chaata, Paige said she liked the food at The Blue Beetroot more, I'd suggest going to both, the food alone was worth it.
We ended up stopping off at a Kaufland (grocery store) before heading home so I could pick Drew up some perogies, They had frozen perogies, all I had to do was boil them! It was amazing. He was so happy, he didn't seem to mind too much when I told him how much money I spent. Haha.
Overall it was a great trip. Paige and I talked the whole time, we have a lot in common and hate a lot of the same thing, you know, things lasting friendships are built on! Of course after 2.5 years of searching for a travel friend, I finally found one and we're about to leave. On the bright side, now that we haven't scared each other off I see more travels for us in the future!
